DURING THE WEEK

GROWTH GROUPS

A key part of our mission is to see everyone mature in Christ. Our Growth Groups are a vital way we do just that. Growth Groups meet weekly and generally have around 8-12 members per group. They are where we get to know each other better, build closer relationships, provide practical care  for one another and pray. We spend time reading, discussing and applying God’s Word at the personal level. There is a group leader who facilitates discussion and exploration of God’s Word. Our ideal is that every church member is active in a Growth Group.

We offer a range of groups which meet at different times and locations. Some of our groups meet on a week night, others during the daytime. Some meet in the homes of church members, others at St Mark’s. Please contact one of our staff to find out more and to join a group.

PLAYGROUP

Our Playgroup is on every Friday during term time from 9:30am till 11:30am at St Mark’s. It runs in the playground area which is located on the lower tier of our site, opposite Malabar Public School.

This is a great time for parents, grand-parents or carers to come together with their little ones to talk, play and sing. There is fruit for the kids and coffee for the adults. On a sunny day there is no better place to be than in the St Mark’s playground. And on the colder days there is warmth and shelter in our indoor playgroup room.

THIRST

THIRST is for high school students in year 7 through to year 12. It is a place where teens can ask the big questions of life, investigate Jesus, make new friends, and hang out together. The program runs every Friday night during school term from 7:15pm to 9:15pm at St Marks’ Malabar. A typical night consists of engaging activities, games, a Bible talk, discussion groups, and supper.

IN LOCAL SCHOOLS

Special Religious Education (SRE or Scripture)

Qualified SRE teachers from St Mark’s Anglican Church Malabar teach Scripture at La Perouse, Matraville Soldier’s Settlement, Chifley and Malabar Primary schools, a total of 14 classes each week. Our aim is to teach the children who Jesus is, so they can grow in their personal relationship with our heavenly Father through Jesus. We use the authorised Primary SRE program for the Sydney Anglican Diocese (https://cepconnect.com.au/curriculum).

Matraville Sports High

St Marks runs an ISCF group at Matraville Sports High. Meeting at Thursday lunchtime, the group explores God’s word together, sharing experiences of being Christians at school, and trying to make the lunch break as fun as possible before classes resume!

SENIORS

Friendship hour is just that. It is where many of our older (and wiser!) folk meet for a cup of tea, conversation and a Bible devotion. It meets for an hour every Friday at 10.30am at the All Saints Centre, Norfolk St, Matraville.

Nursing Homes

Once a month we hold a Communion Service at Dorothy Boyt House, and St James Villa.

markmoran at little bay

St Mark’s runs a weekly Bible Fellowship group at markmoran at little bay. Many residents choose to attend this time of singing, Bible reading and encouragement. This group generally meets each week on a Friday, and the time and location of the group is published on the activities schedule at markmoran at little bay.
